The Social Panopticon
"The Social Panopticon" Collection is based on the concept of constant observation, and the ever-present gaze of the media.
From hidden surveillance cameras to the watchful eyes of the media, the feeling of being constantly observed is omnipresent, influencing the human psyche in every way. The pressure to conform to societal norms and expectations can be stifling, leading individuals to feel like they are under the relentless gaze of their peers, fostering a culture of conformity and self-censorship.
The purpose of using 3D toy eyes came from the saying "The eyes are the windows to the souls", which I found an extremely impactful way of conveying this gloomy concept, yet still keeping it fun, playful, and most importantly, wearable! Eyes hold immense power, serving as a vehicle for communication, connection, and judgment. The act of being looked at can evoke a range of emotions, from vulnerability and self-consciousness to empowerment and validation.
This collection serves as a statement of resistance against constant observation, empowering you to reclaim your personal space and express your identity freely amidst the ever-watchful digital age.
